Formal Elements in Art

In Art, students across the key stages are beginning to identify and demonstrate the formal elements.

The art formal elements include line, shape, form, tone, texture, pattern, value and colour.  It is how these elements are organised together by artists that will determine the type and style of art that is produced.

Students have so far been exploring 'line' where they have demonstrated different types of mark making to create art with thin, thick, horizontal, vertical, curved and even spiral lines!  As well as 'value' which defines how light or dark a given colour is.

Our amazing artists are recording their masterpieces in their sketchbooks as well as contributing to the art working wall showcasing examples of all the formal elements.
