Elements, Compounds and Mixtures

Group 2 have been learning about the periodic table in Science. This week we have done an experiment where we mixed sulphur and iron. The learners knew that a chemical reaction had not taken place as they were able to separate the elements using a magnet.

We followed this up with a further experiment where we introduced heat to the mixture. We knew a chemical reaction had taken place as the elements could no longer be separated. We deduced that the mixture had been turned into a compound.

Iron + Sulphur = Iron Sulphide. (Fe + S=FeS)
