New Beginnings Across Cultures

Year 9 explored how New Year is celebrated around the world and how different countries and cultures mark this important event in unique ways. They learnt that while many countries celebrate on 1st January, others follow different calendars, such as Chinese New Year or Diwali in parts of India, each with its own traditions, foods, music and celebrations.

Learners discussed how New Year celebrations often represent fresh starts, hope and reflection, allowing people to think about the past year and set goals for the future. Understanding these celebrations helped Year 9 appreciate cultural diversity and recognise why New Year is an important and meaningful time for people across the world.
