Skills to Learn
We are now 3 weeks into our Skills to Learn Programme and we are delighted not only with the way the learners are conducting themselves out of school but also with the new skills that they are acquiring each week.
We are getting into good routines such as the setting up a camp as a team, being able to harvest kindling with the safe use of axes and saws so that fires can be made and the learners are now confident enough to carry out campfire cooking tasks. The woods give the learners larger boundaries in which to explore and learn whilst still providing opportunities to be involved in functional Maths and English tasks. Already the impact on the learners is quite evident, such as improved attendance, increased engagement, more effective communication skills and most importantly smiling faces!
