When you’re calm, you’re in control

To help our learners to concentrate and reduce school based anxiety, our learners at the Acorn Centre have been learning about coping strategies and how to best use fidget toys and sensory toys to support them in lessons.

Research tells us that: “Individuals with anxiety may fidget or make small movements when they are feeling anxious, restless, impatient or nervous. By using fidget toys it gives these movements an outlet, which can help calm a person's nerves, relieve stress and serve as a distraction in an overstimulating environment.”

One of our KS3 Acorn centre learners, Mitchell, says “I love using fidget toys because they help me concentrate and calm down.”
