Whitley Bay Knives Down Tournament

This week, the learners of Trinity Academy New Bridge attended the Knives Down football tournament. This is a football tournament organised for schools across the North East to raise awareness of the damage knife crime can do to themselves and the community and the dangers of carrying a knife.

The tournament started off with a group stage in which we managed to field two teams of six, which then led to a semi-final and subsequent final based on points.

Team A managed to get to a place into the semi-final by some superb play with goals in big games, which included a hattrick and the man of the match was one of our Year 7 learners who made some outrageous saves to keep his team in the tournament and progress to the semi-final. Unfortunately, that is where the fairy-tale ends as Team A got beat 1-0. This meant they had to say goodbye to the tournament.

Team B played with tenacity and grit as they managed to plough themselves to a 5th place finish within the tournament, just missing out on the semi-final spot. Notable players in this squad was a Year 10 learner who was the engine of the team, winning tackles and scoring important goals. One of our Year 9 learners was composed as ever between the sticks making heroic saves for his side. A Year 7 learner was the solid rock at the back, not putting a foot wrong the whole tournament.

Overall, all of the learners who participated had a very good day out, enjoying the fun and playing football whilst supporting a good cause in knife crime prevention.
